THE LIFEGUARD COURSE

The course comprises a series of modules covering sea conditions, first aid and CPR, rescue techniques, signals and radio communication. The exam comprises a written test on all you learn, examination of your CPR technique, a run-swim- run in less than 10 minutes, signals and all the rescue techniques.

Course Requirements and Information

The LA/JLA qualification is a world recognised qualification and the instructors at Marine are all qualified instructors or instructors-in- training. We also have highly qualified paramedics helping with the medical aspect of training. The course usually takes about 8-10 weeks. We run courses all year round so please contact us for details on upcoming courses. As soon as a course finishes you or your son/daughter will be contacted for the start of the next course.

THE LIFEGUARD AWARDS
Junior Lifeguard Award (14-16 years)

Having your JLA allows you to perform voluntary lifeguard patrols under the supervision of a qualified Lifeguard.

Entrance requirements:
  • Must be at least 14 years old on the day of the examination
  • Must be able to complete a 400m pool swim in under 9 minutes (signed off by a coach/gym instructor with cell phone number for confirmation. Please have this available for the first training session also)
  • Run-Swim- Run in less than 10 minutes in the surf. We will test the Run-Swim-Run on the first day of training
Lifeguard Award (16 years and older)

The Lifeguard Award (LA) for senior lifeguards will enable you to work as a professional lifeguard. You will be required to complete an annual retest.

  • Must be at least 16 years old on the day of the examination
  • Must be able to complete a 400m pool swim in under 8 minutes (signed off by a coach/gym instructor with cell phone number for confirmation. Please have this available for the first training session also)
