Marine SLC is a voluntary surf lifesaving club that was established in 1963 as a community service; providing lifeguard coverage on Addington Beach, Durban on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.
In Marine SLC’s 50 year history the club has performed over 3037 rescues of bathers- in-distress during our patrol hours – which exceeds 10 000 man hours of voluntary community service each year.
Marine SLC Patrol Squads undertake patrols of Addington Beach and we are extremely proud of our record over half a century. The extensive voluntary service rendered by our many members over this period is part of a wider community service and life-skills development program.
Marine SLC’s water safety education is an on-going, self-funded project created to reach out to the beachfront youth of Durban and includes aquatic life-skills development and aquatic sports development.
The formal school of lifeguard instruction sees men and women instructed, trained and examined in all aspects of life guarding. Rescue techniques, CPR and first aid are among the disciplines covered and candidates are tested by independent examiners from Lifesaving South Africa and if successful attain the coveted Lifeguard Award.
We save lives by reaching out.
