OUTSTANDING MEMBERSHIP FEES
Membership fees that have been invoiced on a monthly basis since 1 April 2026 and not yet paid are in process of membership suspension or termination. Please understand that Marine SLC needs your fees to ensure the smooth running and upkeep of your club and yours and all the members best interests.
Due to not payment of membership fees, we have now suspended 40 members. It will be sad to see them go if they choose not to honour their membership obligation.
Thank you

NOTICE BOARD
RAFFLE – World Lifesaving champs
Don’t forget to take a ticket for the World Lifesaving champs
Hailstorm rescue
We had a severe hailstorm on Tuesday 15th Sept, which flooded the clubhouse and peppered the inside of the club with hail. Our old and brittle roof sheeting was no match for the hail attack. We are doing our best to deal with the temporary repairs until such time as the council support gets to assisting with a permanent fix.
What a team!
We have notified the Council and await their support and assistance in the replacing of our roof.
A big shout out to Glen Robbins taking it upon himself to come to MSLCs rescue after the hailstorm. Thanks Glen for project managing our interim waterproofing needs at the club.
The Marine rescue team in action today dealing with our hailstone peppered clubhouse. Buy these people a coffee when you see them next. Glen Robbins, Andrew Davids, Anne and Matt Vosloo. What a team!
Thanks also to the MRC Group for their quick response, advice and team on site rendering much needed assistance.
Sand Pumping
Looks like the sand pumping quota at Addington has been fulfilled, however the mountain of sand directly in front of the club still must be levelled. News from the council is that the bathing area will still be closed for approximately 1 week to allow for the levelling of the beach.
Junior/Senior Lifeguard awards
Junior/Senior Lifeguard award starting 25th September to the 1/2 October..
Contact Deon 082 950 1318 or Bambi in the office soonest to book your spot.
Club Renovations
Work on the Ladies changerooms is going to be started soon, please be patient while the work is in progress. We are aiming to have everything ready and available before the work begins in order to get the task finished with minimal delay and inconvenience.
Work to be done is the refurbishment of the showers – Substitute shower brick walls with Perspex panels, replace shower heads, tile shower wall and floor, install lighting, paint changeroom walls. Use of the men’s showers can be done whilst work is in progress, this obviously just needs to be done with suitable co-ordination and sensibility.
Worlds Fund Raising
Our youngsters showing drive and initiative to start fundraising for World Champs in PE taking place end of November. This is the Marine spirit we want to see. Thank you for supporting them and showing them that hard work and effort gets results.

MEMBER PROFILE

TANIA KRIEGISCH
The Basics
1. Name and nickname (and how you got it). Tania = “Tee” Short, sweet and easy to yell when someone is about to get smashed by a wave! 😄
2. What first brought you down to the club? I have enjoyed being part of Marine for just over a year. And what a year it’s been!
3. What’s your day job when you are not in red and yellow? I teach English online to Israeli students. So most days I’m teaching English and then trying to remember all the English when I’m out on my board! 😂

Life at Marine
5. What’s your favourite thing about Marine Surf Lifesaving club? The absolute kindness and opportunity given to us. There’s such a wonderful feeling of belonging here — everyone is welcomed, encouraged and supported.
6. Early morning paddle or late afternoon swim? Early morning boogie for sure. There’s something very special about getting out there early, before the day really starts.
7. Flat water or messy conditions? Flat is nice for a change but absolutely messy with fun conditions to play. Give me some fun conditions any day! Absolutely messy, challenging conditions are where the fun begins.
8. If Marine had a theme song, what should it be? Africa by Toto. 🌍🌊 I mean… we’re in Africa, we’re in the ocean, and we’re probably all slightly crazy. It just works!

On the Water
9. Your favourite ocean conditions to train or paddle in? We’re not fussy – any will do (minus blue bottles). 😜
10. Your least favourite conditions? Hard dumpers but we’ll still go out. We may question our life choices afterwards, but we’ll go! 😂
11. Biggest wipe-out or “that didn’t go to plan” moment. Oh the biggest wipe-out… too many to mention but probably the most spectacular was a few weeks ago and when I came up there was a whole audience who had watched the whole thing. 😊 Nothing like having witnesses to your humiliation!
12. Best paddle, swim or patrol day you have had at Marine? We have had the most diverse conditions it’s hard to choose and we’re not fussy. Probably the absolute best was actually not on a Friday but a day a few of us snuck out for a boogie. The waves were clear, full and absolutely perfect for practicing, catching the most fantastic waves… still our best day yet.
13. One skill you’re proudest of improving since joining? Oh my gosh… running this awesome fantastic group has got to be the BIGGEST learning curve I have ever experienced. I know it’s not quite water-related, but this group is why we are here. There’s so much to learn from each other — usually while laughing, getting wet and occasionally wondering what on earth we’re doing! 😂

The fun stuff
14. Coffee before or after training? Coffee definitely a must after being in the water, although some are die hards and have before too. ☕😂
15. If you could swap crafts for a day, what would you choose? If I could swap craft, it would be to have a day out on a surfboard. One can dream!
16. Who at the club would you want next to you in a rescue? Mmmm…happy to have the team out there for us
17. Who tells the best stories at the Club? All the GG’s have stories to tell, some that will have you rolling in the aisles, and others that will have you in tears and remind you to be humble… there’s some incredible stories in our group.
18. Who takes training just a little too seriously? Oh there is always one. 😊 And if you can’t think who it is… it might be you! 😂

Personal Insights
19. What does being part of a lifesaving cub mean to you personally? Safety, surety that there is someone on board or around to rely on for this big group of women who come every Friday, no matter their skill (or lack of). That means so much — knowing there is someone around that you can rely on.
20. What keeps you coming back, even ont ough days? The friendly, inviting camaraderie, the staff, the perfect spot we have for every level of woman who ventures out on their boards. Nobody is made to feel like they don’t belong.
21. Biggest lesson the ocean has taught you? A while ago, we went to East London where I faced seas I have NEVER EVER faced before. It was very scary and a huge reminder that the sea is SO powerful and can be unpredictable. It definitely gave me a healthy respect for the ocean.
22. One thing people might not know about you? I am sensitive and very aware of others and their feelings and try to suss those out and make sure they are okay. I think sometimes the most important thing is simply noticing when someone needs a little encouragement, reassurance or perhaps just a cup of coffee! . I am a Christian and this group is absolutely God driven, from the smallest beginning to today. I’m so thankful for it all.

Quick-Fire Round
23. Sunset or Sunrise? Sunset. 🌅
24. Summer or winter paddling? Summer. ☀️
25. Energy bar or banana? Are those my only two options – wine! 🍷😂
26. Ocean swim or pool swim? Ocean swim for sure. 🌊
27. Training hard or training smart? Training smart but not sure I get that right. 😂

Looking Ahead
28. A goal you have been working towards this season? Improving my own skill on my board. There’s always something new to learn — and apparently the ocean isn’t going to let me get complacent!
29. Something you’d still like to learn or improve at the club? I’d love something that our group can support – a beach clean-up, or sea improvement, or something like that. I’d love us to support something meaningful and give back to the environment that gives us so much.
30. Advice for someone thinking about joining Marine Surf Lifesaving Club? Oh, go for it, you have nothing to lose and absolutely everything to gain. You might get wet, you might wipe out, you might discover muscles you didn’t know existed — but you’ll laugh, learn and meet an incredible group of women.

Finish Strong
31. One sentence to describe Marine Surf Lifesaving club? The place with a big heart and passion. ❤️
32. If you could say one thing to your fellow members, what would it be? Just do it, you be you. Come as you are, bring your nerves, your enthusiasm, your lack of experience — whatever you’ve got. There’s a place for you here.
Marine has given us far more than just a place to get into the water. It’s given us friendship, confidence, courage, laughter, support and a whole new way of looking at what we’re capable of.
And as Durbs Granny Grommets, we’re proving that you’re never too old, too nervous or too inexperienced to try something new.
So come on in.
The water’s waiting… and so are the Granny Grommets! 🌊🏄♀️❤️
